Day to Day Living

F-FIRST FILL? I hope you enjoy!! :x

-------

It would go to figure that Cid would have been on his last cigarette in the pack when it all happened.

He didn't need it when they were still in an emergency state after the fall of Radiant Gardens, when the survivors and refugees had been thrust into the odds-and-ends world of Traverse Town. It's like they say - 'any idiot can face a crisis, it's this day to day living that wears you down'. Cid didn't really know who 'they' were, but sure as anything when the days were filled with combing the streets for any survivors and trying to organize who was there (few) and who wasn't (many), there just wasn't a lot of time to think about nicotine addiction.

It was when everything came to a lull, and everyone was beginning to figure out long-term survival that he began to feel the withdrawals.

He was a mechanic without a working ship to speak of (he hadn't landed so much as CRASHED), and no current way to fix it. It was damn tragic, and probably some kinda artistic except he hated irony in art.

"Hey! Old man! Hey! Hey!"

Cid cringed as he heard the voice of the girl that had decided to make herself part of some kind of 'defense force' for the town with a couple of other kids (who needed a damn defense force, anyway? It was simple enough - DON'T GO IN THE DARKNESS-INFESTED AREAS), all ones he had shoved in his ship during the escape from the falling world. Cid supposed he couldn't outright hate them for their trying to meddle in everything and keep him updated every chance they got.

He could still grumble and gripe about it, though.

"Whaddaya want?" he yelled back at Yuffie as she practically skipped up to where he was bent over a tarp with ship parts and other odds and ends they'd recovered, trying to make something that worked.

"Hey hey well a couple of us have been doing patrols-"

"You told me last week, and three days ago, and yesterday, I #$#*@!& know already!"

"-and we were wondering if you had anything that could help us out! You know, defensively, since you're like a genius mechanic right?"

The damn kid must have had grandparents, because she had a way of doing the doe-eyes-I-will-love-you-forever-if-you-help-me-out face.

Cid grunted, then slapped together a couple protect chains with the stuff he had on hand and passed them over to her.

"It isn't much, but it's better than nothing. Don't get yourselves killed." he grumbled, hoping she'd let him get back to his work on trying to repair his ship now.

No such luck.

"WOOOOW~!" Yuffie looked over the chains, twirled them around, generally did all the things ADD kids did when you gave them a new shiny. "These are awesome! You know, you should do this! Accessories! I bet a lot of people would like them, and it'd keep you busy while you tried to find ship parts! Anyway I gotta jet, ciao!"

And she was running off again, before Cid had a chance to yell at her again, like it was her idea to leave.

Cid snorted, prepared to dismiss everything she said as background noise. By the end of another frustrating, fruitless day, he was really starting to want that last cigarette and her words were nagging at his mind.

"An accessory shop, huh?" Cid grumbled aloud, casting a curious glance over to one of the empty buildings in first district. Easy to find, right in the middle there. If he was already getting hassled for this kind of thing...

Grabbing his last cigarette and lighting it up, Cid nodded to himself. An accessory shop. Just for now, just to keep him busy. It wasn't like he'd have to do it long-term or anything.
