So, in the spirit of kicking off conversation, a question:


What are you most hoping for from Kingdom Hearts 3? Big or small, doesn't matter, as long as you really would like it.

For me?

In all honesty, I feel like the trailer glimpses have actually given me more or less what I'd want -- Vanitas is running around, the last trailer suggests something may happen with Terra/Lingering Will, and most important of all, looks like my stubbornness for a decade-plus over Riku II/Riku Replica bore fruit. (muahahahaha.)

Whatever else comes out of KH3, and I expect to be both likely entertained and probably ranting because I'm ornery like that, I've got what I came for.

that bloody box will still be the death of me, though.

Something closer to KH1 than KH2, as far as gameplay goes. Or at least being able to wander ALL OVER compared to how narrow areas were in KH2.

I'm expecting it to feel closer to BBS/DDD, so you may well get your wish -- BBS had some nice wandering spots and DDD was just weird in places as you know X3

I'm trying to temper my expectations and let myself be taken along for Mr. Nomura's Wild Ride as it were, because the one thing I really want probably won't come to fruition, which is a redemption arc for Vanitas, or to see him fight alongside the heroes ;0;

Alas, while I'd thought of a reason for Vanitas to work alongside Team Protag for a time -- not a redemption arc, though -- the game seems to have just decided to shortcut the way to Ven, so that's a thing.

Maybe Nomura has something else in mind --

I'm really hoping we get to Save All My Children, including my awful son who's older than me (Even). I'm very stressed that it looks like he may have been Norted - I just want Apprentices redemption stuff! mutter mutter gonna have to write it myself mutter

I'm extremely irked about Even -- and a number of other bodies -- personally, not the least of reasons being that it all seems to be undermining the claim in DDD that so many of the Org were actually unsuitable for Xehanort's plan to begin with.

But Nomura and consist writing haven't been a thing so far, so welp ~

Yeah, I was really enjoying the concept that Xehanort went to all that trouble and it turned out like two of his Org guys were suitable, because people with strong wills and senses of identity are harder to Nort. But I guess he got them all after all...

My dearest, secretest hope is that there's just a subplot with Even, Demyx (Emyd?), and Ienzo pretending to have been Norted for Sneak Purposes. Let my terrible children be redeemed!!

Man, I would love playable Kairi, but I'm not going to get my hopes up. From the trailers, it looks like the main seven are in three groups throughout the game (Sora/Donald/Goofy, Riku/Mickey, Kairi/Lea) and only meet up at the end. So not many opportunities for Kairi or Riku to be playable at all.

I'm hoping there's at least a chunk - Kairi would be great for a tutorial level, if nothing else - where we can play as non-Sora people. Integrate their plot lines with gameplay rather than just cutscenes, and all that. I have been waiting for Kairi to at least be a bonus party member for fifteen years.

Riku. I just want Riku. In my party. For the entire game. Hoping to see Riku in the next scene was my main motivation the first time I played KH1.

I'm suspecting you won't get the entire game if we do get a split storyline if only temporarily (re: Riku and Mickey in WoD, etc); but it does look to have quite a bit of Riku coming up --?

Quite a bit of Riku is more than enough for me! I didn't mean to imply I don't enjoy anything else about KH, I love the entire series. But I guess you always end up wishing your fav characters got more screen time.

Wait tho... split storyline? I'll admit I haven't been keeping up with all the info about KHIII. Even having solid confirmation that it exists seems surreal at this point. But I haven't heard anything about a split storyline. Interesting!

I imagine that at least part of the game is going to involve splits, since Sora's in one place doing things, Kairi and Lea are in another, and then Riku and Mickey are off in the world of darkness for at least a segment.

Eventually they'd meet (or at least I hope so, lol, and the massive fight in the last trailer throws a pile of them together) but yeah, looking at the trailer footage there's at least some splitting going on I think.

Things I already got that were better than I even hoped for:
• The gummi ship minigame -- my favorite minigame and the previews look amazing.
• Twilight Town gang. Xion on the cover (meaning hopefully in the game??). Ienzo as a support character.
• Isa/Lea closure?? Maybe??

Things I'm still hoping for:
• Saving everybody. Saving Aqua looks like it's going to happen, but Ven and Terra and Xion and all the Norted Org XIII people? I hope!
• Dilan and Aeleus -- they haven't appeared Norted, so I'm guessing they're on the good guys' side this time but probably just cameo/minor roles.
• Not sure if I should hope at this point, but like... Final Fantasy characters? Where are they?? I'd still play and enjoy a KH without any FF characters, but it'd feel weird for Cloud and Leon and the rest to be written out of KH3 given they played such a big role in the earlier games. Will that happen??
• I'm hoping for Radiant Garden support characters in general aside from the FF ones -- the fairies, Merlin, etc.

Not sure if I'm really hoping for any shakeups on this front, but if there's something I'm most meh about KH3 right now, it's the worlds. I can see why they're going for Disney/Pixar's recent CG movies (because all the character models are, like, right there) but I've not been super into any of them. Even reprises of old worlds other than Hercules (e.g. Tron, Aladdin, Nightmare Before Christmas, etc.) would be a step up from what's been announced so far.

But I think Dream Drop Distance spoiled me -- that game had such a perfect collection of my favorite Disney movies (Pinocchio, Hunchback of Notre Dame, FANTASIA, even Mickey, Donald, Goofy: The Three Musketeers, which I have on DVD and was like "WTF? Other people have actually seen this film??"). I don't think any Kingdom Hearts game will blow me away with such a concentrated collection of faves.

While he does make a note that hints at possibly a cameo, based on an interview with Nomura this summer past I'm not expecting to see any significant FF-based character presence in KH3.

I'm not hugely surprised if that turns out to be the case, personally -- there's no FF influence to speak of in UX, there was only the inconsequential Zack cameo in BBS, and DDD just featured TWEWY characters who could have been find-replaced by anyone with no affect on the game's plot or backstory. Even moogles are less prominent in their own way.

We'll see what if anything in KH3 he's dancing around soon enough, though --?
